Are you falling into the gap?
Are you falling into the gap?
Greetings, Ninja!

Let’s talk about the pay gap.

Sure, it’s uncomfortable and infuriating, but if we’re ever going to fix it, we need to understand what we’re up against. According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research:

  • Women currently make 18% less than men. That’s 82 cents for every dollar earned by men.
  • At our current rate of change, the pay gap for white women will eventually close… in 2059. Or, if you’re a black woman, 2130. Fair pay for Latina women? We’re looking at 2224.

This is — let’s say it all together now — UNACCEPTABLE. And, honestly, pretty mind-boggling. In a sea of lofty corporate mission statements and claims of diversity and inclusion, how does this keep happening?

The answer is complicated, but we know one thing: relationships matter and networking is crucial to earning promotions and getting pay increases. If we want to speed up the estimated timeline, we need to make sure ALL women have opportunities to connect with their peers, form professional bonds with colleagues, and seek mentorship.

As Ninjas, let’s do what we can to move the needle on this issue. No woman should wait another two decades to be paid equitably. Women have waited long enough.

inequality is a prominent problem… still.
Not only do women still make less than men, but many will probably be retired before the playing field is level, says the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.
Workplace bro culture isn’t just a turn of phrase, its spirit is alive and well — and may account for a staggering 39 percent of the gender pay gap.
Former United States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” But women have much more to gain than avoiding the bad place by connecting with other women.
